Covid in Scotland: Pub ban on background music to be lifted

Well, one piece of good news is that the Scottish Government in their wisdom have now decided that pubs and restaurants CAN play background music.

Shame we're still not allowed to sell any alcohol.
Quick, put The Monkees on at half-volume...

Hospitality venues have not been allowed to play music since August amid concerns over Covid-19 transmission.

Great news about the roll-out of a possible vaccine starting in the UK next week. Could this be the glimmer of hope on the horizon we've all been waiting for?
Unfortunately, coming back to the here and now, Edinburgh seems firmly stuck in Tier 3 of the Scottish system of restrictions. The constant shifting of news, rules and regulations has made it impossible for us to plan anything.
Because of this, we have decided that The Regent will not reopen until some time in the New Year. This gives us all a chance to think about ourselves, our friends and families rather than wondering "are we going to be open?", "are we going to reopen only to be forced to close again?", "are we planning to reopen to then be told at the last minute that we can't?"
It would have been lovely to see all our wonderful customers and friends over the festive period and to wish everyone in person the VERY BEST for the bright new year of 2021 but it is not to be. So, in the age of Social Media, we're having to do it virtually.
All our love and have the best of times possible over the next month. SEE YOU ALL NEXT YEAR!

Thursday, October 8th, 2020

As you are probably aware, the Scottish Government announced yesterday that all pubs, bars and restaurants in Edinburgh must close at 6pm on Friday 9th October for a minimum of 16 days.
This date may of course change over the next week or two and, even when we can reopen, we may not be allowed to operate in the way we have up until now.
The support we have received from everyone since reopening just over two months ago has been phenomenal and it's been wonderful to see you all. Hopefully we will be able to welcome you to The Regent again in the near future.
Look after yourselves and others.
All our love, The Regent xxx

Scotland's 10pm curfew starts this evening!

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2020

Following yesterday's Scottish Government announcement, The Regent will be introducing a closing time of 10pm every evening from Friday 25th September. Please be aware that 10pm is not "last orders" or "drinking-up time"; there must be no customers at all inside any licensed venue after 10pm. Premises that do not adhere to the rules risk being closed down.
We will therefore have a strict last orders policy at 9.30pm with guests being reminded that they must finish and leave before 10pm.
On a slightly more positive note - although people are not able to visit other people's homes, groups of up to six people from two households are still allowed to meet in pubs and restaurants.
All our love and hope to see you soon xxx
