Hello Everyone!

Fingers crossed, The Regent will be allowed to open in three weeks time.
Some pubs with outside areas will be reopening tomorrow (April 26th). Unfortunately, with no beer garden or pavement seating, we will have to wait until May 17th before we can invite people into The Regent for a beer or a glass of wine.
The Scottish Government will still be imposing many restrictions when we open but at least they they are allowing us to play background music.

DAYTIME QUIZ SHOW

Channel 4 have approached us, looking for couples / pairs for a brand new quiz show. This is what they've sent through...

The Answer Trap – A NEW quiz for Channel 4 looking for pairs

Anita Rani will host this exciting new list-based quiz show for Channel 4. In each episode two pairs of contestants go head-to-head, sorting lists of answers into categories, adding money to their prize fund as they go. Sounds pretty straight forward, right? But within the lists are answer traps set by our resident boffins Bobby Seagull and Frank Paul - fall for too many traps and you’ll lose the chance to add money to your prize fund, allowing your opponents to jump in! You’ll need a mix of intelligence, common sense, and just a little bit of luck to make it through three rounds and on to the jackpot game for the chance to take home thousands of pounds!

So if you think you and your partner can sort Drag Queens from Grand National horses or Prime Ministers from Shakespeare Characters we’d love to hear from you today!
We are looking for teams of two to take part in the gameshow for our new Channel 4 quiz show. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, you, must be from the same household or in an extended single person support bubble. The pairs can be family members, friends, or couples aged 18 and over.

RoS Pride invites you to the first in a series of events, bringing together members of the LGBTI+ community, from across Scotland.

The section of the Criminal Justice (Scotland) Act 1980 decriminalising homosexual acts between men came into force in 1981 – just forty years ago. In that time, our wider community has overcome barriers to our inclusion and equal status, as well as faced challenges.

Our community continues to thrive, flourish and evolve, and RoS Pride is delighted to welcome Patrick Harvie MSP (he/him), a well kent face to many of us, who will talk about the changes we have seen.

We are also pleased to be joined by Clara Monroy (she/her), a gay Londoner from Colombia, who is the Founder and Organiser of London International Lesbians. She describes herself as a community-builder and events organiser, and as a trans ally.

The event will be hosted by Jacq Kelly (she/her) and Lucy Swan (she/her) – two of the founding members of RoS Pride.

We hope for a thoughtful discussion. But, given our event immediately follows LGBT History Month, we also hope that the event can be relaxed, and a celebration of our community.

Our panellists will be taking questions, and these can be submitted in advance by emailing: [email protected]

Allies are most welcome, but please be aware that this is a dedicated safe space for members of the wider LGBTI+ community, and that everyone should be respected at all times regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, faith, or disability.

Hate speech of any kind will not be accepted.

You can register here.

We look forward to seeing you on the day.

Eddi Reader ~ Auld Lang Syne

It's Burns' Night this evening but we are not able to share the time in person with friends, family and acquaintances. We must do it in our thoughts and hearts and minds.
Enjoy the haggis and raise a glass to the old Bard!

Covid in Scotland: Pub ban on background music to be lifted

Well, one piece of good news is that the Scottish Government in their wisdom have now decided that pubs and restaurants CAN play background music.

Shame we're still not allowed to sell any alcohol.
Quick, put The Monkees on at half-volume...

Hospitality venues have not been allowed to play music since August amid concerns over Covid-19 transmission.

Great news about the roll-out of a possible vaccine starting in the UK next week. Could this be the glimmer of hope on the horizon we've all been waiting for?
Unfortunately, coming back to the here and now, Edinburgh seems firmly stuck in Tier 3 of the Scottish system of restrictions. The constant shifting of news, rules and regulations has made it impossible for us to plan anything.
Because of this, we have decided that The Regent will not reopen until some time in the New Year. This gives us all a chance to think about ourselves, our friends and families rather than wondering "are we going to be open?", "are we going to reopen only to be forced to close again?", "are we planning to reopen to then be told at the last minute that we can't?"
It would have been lovely to see all our wonderful customers and friends over the festive period and to wish everyone in person the VERY BEST for the bright new year of 2021 but it is not to be. So, in the age of Social Media, we're having to do it virtually.
All our love and have the best of times possible over the next month. SEE YOU ALL NEXT YEAR!

Thursday, October 8th, 2020

As you are probably aware, the Scottish Government announced yesterday that all pubs, bars and restaurants in Edinburgh must close at 6pm on Friday 9th October for a minimum of 16 days.
This date may of course change over the next week or two and, even when we can reopen, we may not be allowed to operate in the way we have up until now.
The support we have received from everyone since reopening just over two months ago has been phenomenal and it's been wonderful to see you all. Hopefully we will be able to welcome you to The Regent again in the near future.
Look after yourselves and others.
All our love, The Regent xxx
